Sylvia Sue Hulliung, 83, born October 19, 1941, in Belleville, IL passed peacefully in her home in Mascoutah, IL on January 10, 2025, with her loving husband by her side.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents Sylvester and Mary (Hasty) Vratney, Brother James Vratney, Sister Rosie (Tom) Webster, Brother Thomas Vratney, Great Grandson Jah’Zavion Mosley, Grandson Justin Sterling and Granddaughter Trisha Burton.

Sylvia is survived by her husband of 55 years Ronald Hulliung, Sr. Children: Daughter, Tammy Burton (Geno), Daughter, Mary Campbell (Virgil), Son Ronald Hulliung Jr. (Denise), Daughter Christina McClain (Daniel) and Son Matthew Hulliung (Patricia). Grandchildren: Danielle (Will) Haerter, Samantha Burton, Xavier Smith, Gabriel Hulliung, Joshua Hulliung, Sophia Smith and Carter McClain. Great-Grandchildren: Austin Taylor, Payton Macklin, Zah’Kiyra Mosley, Jah’Siah Mosley, Caleb Sterling and Charlotte Haerter. Great-Great Grandchildren Kahlia Johnson and Cora Taylor.

Sylvia met Ron on a rideshare van to their employment at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft after the other guys in the van dared him to give her a call and ask her out. I’d say Ron won that dare 100-fold. She also worked as a coal miner for Monterey Coal in Albers, IL for 19 years until they closed. She was very proud of this job as it wasn’t common at that time for women to work in that profession. Sylvia was a loving wife, a devoted mother and embraced her growing family with love. She was happiest surrounded by her family or traveling in the RV, she hated the cold and really looked forward to her trips with her husband down south. She will be missed by all who loved her – beyond measure.

She was a member Holy Childhood Catholic Church, IAMAW (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers) and United Mine Workers or America.

Memorials may be made to Holy Childhood Memorial Improvement Fund, 419 E Church Street, Mascoutah, IL 62258 or Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society (donate.nationalmssociety.org) which was a cause dear to her heart.
