Robert J. Wennemann

Robert J. Wennemann, 80, of St. Libory IL, born Dec. 9, 1937, in St. Libory, IL died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, IL.

Robert was the co-owner of Wenneman’s Meat Market in St. Libory, IL.  He was a member of St. Liborius Catholic Church, the St. Libory American Legion, and  the 700 Club for bowling. Robert was also an avid golfer, bowler, pheasant and quail hunter, and was inducted into the Mon-Clair League Baseball Hall of Fame.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene, nee Strathman, Wennemann; his first wife, Carol J., nee Dingwerth, Wennemann, whom he married in Okawville, IL on May 29, 1962, and who died Oct. 16, 1999; a son, Scot Wennemann; brothers-in-law, Ralph Schmitz and Stanley Haas.

He is survived by his wife, Carol A. Backs-Wennemann, whom he married in St. Libory, IL on May 31, 2003; a daughter, Janel Wennemann of Freeburg, IL; a step-daughter, Kim (John) Perry of Loveland, CO; a step-son, Jason (Laura) Backs of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Michael and Alexa Davinroy both of Freeburg, IL; four step-grandchildren, David Perry of Colorado, Maggie, Riley, and Cooper Backs of Houston, TX; sisters, Esther Schmitz and Jane Hass of St. Libory; a brother, Jim (Sue) Wennemann of St. Libory, IL; sister-in-law, Judy (Don) Poirot of Belleville, IL; brother-in-law, Mike (Kathy) Borrenpohl of Okawville, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the St. Libory Veteran’s Memorial or St. Liborius Cemetery Fund.  Condolences can be sent to the family at mollfuneralhome.com.

Visitation: visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec 2, 2018 and 8 to 10 a.m. Monday, Dec 3, 2018 at St. Liborius Catholic Church in St. Libory, IL.  A prayer service will be held at 2:30 p.m Sunday at the church
