Paul C. “Trigger” Wombacher, 89, of Mascoutah, IL, born Aug. 26, 1929 in Mascoutah, IL, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2019 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.
Paul retired in 1991 from Schnucks, where he was a meat cutter. He had previously owned grocery stores in O’Fallon, Lebanon and Cahokia, IL. He also owned a mobile home sale, service and parts business; a used car sales and a gas and service station. He was a member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah; Loyal Order of the Moose, where he attained Pilgrim Degree; Knights of Columbus; and a U.S. Army Korean War veteran.
Paul’s life was focused on his family, being an amazing husband for 68 years, father, grandfather, and uncle. He was dedicated to the Moose, holding many offices in the Mascoutah Moose Lodge #815 and in the state of Illinois. He was an avid Cardinals fan, having received a contract offer as a catcher. He turned the offer down because he made more money cutting meat. .
He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Elsie, nee Haas, Wombacher; his wife, Helen, nee Kehrer, Wombacher whom he married Apr. 12, 1950 in Mascoutah, IL and who died on May 16, 2018; three brothers, Louis Wombacher, Jr., Charles Wombacher, Donald Wombacher; four sisters, Susie Gardner, Marian Huber, Betty Pruett, and Patricia Knoth; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Mary, nee Essich, Kehrer; brothers-in-law, Robert “Judge” Klein, Henry Huber, Kenny Laquet, Harlan Hayes, Jake Pruett, and Wilson Pope.
He is survived by two sons, Douglas (Ruth) Wombacher and David (Penny) Wombacher; grandchildren, Kristin (Adam) Schmitt, Kara (David) Hamilton, Alisa (Adam) Paulus, Ben Wombacher, Holly (Brian) Pollard, and Desiree (Josh) Johnson; 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ruth Pope, Rita Wilson, Kathleen Hayes, Roaslie Laquet; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; cousins; and numerous nieces, and nephews.

VISITATION: Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019 at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. and a Pilgrim Ritual at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
FUNERAL: A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2018 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah with Father Paul Wienhoff officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery, Mascoutah, IL.
