Otto B. “Bubber” Johnson, Jr., 75, of St. Libory, IL born Jan. 28, 1949, in Belleville, IL died Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.
Bubber was a United States Army Veteran. He served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971, where he received two Purple Heart medals, a Bronze Star and Oak Leaf Cluster medal, and other various military awards. He was a member of St. Liborius Catholic Church, and the American Legion Post 683, St. Libory, IL. Bubber was a 1967 graduate from Althoff Catholic High School, where he was an outstanding football player. He received the James Cerneka Award (Most Valuable Player) and was selected to the Metro East All Star Football Team. Bubber remained a passionate sports fan throughout his life, especially for the St. Louis Cardinals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto B. and Marcella F. “Sally,” nee Demick, Johnson, Sr., a brother, Henry Johnson, sisters-in-law, Min Johnson, Angela Blockyou, and brother-in-law, Lloyd Sandheinrich.
Surviving is his wife, Janice M., nee Schoenherr, Johnson, whom he married at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Livley Grove, IL on Feb. 11, 2006; a son, Jamie (Jackie) McCloskey of Belleville, IL; three grandsons, Jake, Jack, and James McCloskey; siblings, Joseph Johnson, Patricia Sandheinrich, Kathleen (Rodger) Cook, Michael (Donna) Johnson, Cynthia (Arnold) Schmale all of St. Libory, IL; three brothers-in-law, Butch (Camille) Schoenherr, Kenny (Debbie) Schoenherr, and Kevin Blockyou; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

VISITATION: From 4 to 8 PM Thursday, June 27, 2024, and from 9 to 10:30 AM Friday, June 28, 2024, at St. Liborius Catholic Church, St. Libory, IL.
FUNERAL: A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM June 28, 2024, at St. Liborius Catholic Church with Father Mark Stec celebrating. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Liborius Catholic Cemetery.
