Joseph H. Smith, Sr.

Joseph H. Smith, Sr., 90, of Mascoutah, IL, born June 14, 1934, in Philadelphia, PA died Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Memorial Hospital East, Shiloh, IL.

Joe retired from the State of Illinois where he worked as a Veterans Employment Representative. He also retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force, he was a Viet Nam war veteran, a United States Navy veteran, a United States Marine Corp veteran, a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Mascoutah, Douglas Lodge #361 AF & AM and the V.F.W. Post 7682, Mascoutah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William J., Sr. and Nellie, nee Loftus, Smith, granddaughter, Felicia Smith, three sisters, Delores Herman, Nancy Izzi and Jeannie Weidermeier.

Surviving is his wife, Elsie, nee Fink, Smith whom he married in Camden, NJ on June 8, 1957; daughter, Denise (Edward) Wondolowski of Mesa, AZ; two sons, Joseph H. Smith, Jr. of Belleville, IL, Douglas (Adrienne) Smith of Mascoutah; grandchildren, Dr. Amber (Matthew) Kozlowski, Robert Smith, Michael (Angela) Smith, Doug Smith (Suzan), Codi Smith; great grandchildren, Hayden, Liam and Aayla Smith, Gwendolyn Jones, Shaun, Andrew and Adam Kozlowski, Lincoln, Genevieve and Archer Smith; two sisters, Doris Shirk, Christine Smith; three brothers, George and Ronald Smith and Alan (Kim) Smith; and two sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Visitation:  From 4 to 7 PM Friday, July 5, 2024, and from 9 to 10 AM Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.  There will be a Masonic Service 5 PM Friday evening.

Funeral:  A funeral service will be held 10 AM Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Moll Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Goddard officiating. Private burial with military honors will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
