James M. Neer, 81, of St. Libory, IL born July 22, 1940 in East St. Louis, IL died Friday, Dec. 31, 2021 at Memorial Hospital East, Shiloh, IL.
Jim graduated from Assumption High School in East St. Louis in 1958. After serving in the U. S. Air Force, Jim graduated from Ranken Technical College as an electrician while working at Monsanto. He then became employed as an electrician for Peabody Coal Company and also worked most of his life as a farmer. Jim enjoyed the outdoors including, boating, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed building remote-control airplanes and was a member of the Belleville RC Flyers. Jim was a member of St. Liborius Church and Henry Schmitz American Legion Post 683, where he served as past commander and crew leader.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mary Rose, nee Burch, Neer, grandson, Justin Schwankhaus, granddaughter, Hannah Mueller, son-in-law, Travis Luechtefeld, sister-in-law, Diane Diercks, brother-in-law, George H. Koeller, father-in-law and mother-in-law, George A. and Annie Koeller.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann, nee Koeller, Neer of St. Libory whom he married at St. Liborius Catholic Church on May 2, 1964; his children, Rose Ann (Joel) Mueller of St. Louis, Janet (Stanley) Brammeier of Okawville, James Neer of Belleville, Diane (John) Schwankhaus of Okawville, Christine (Robert) Tweedy of St. Libory; grandchildren, Taylor Gravatt, Briana Gravatt and fiancé, Stephan Griffin, Nick Mueller, Brittany (Evan) Forgey, Brandon (Shannon) Brammeier, Ashlyn (Tony) Mantia, Kyle (Amber) Neer, Jacob Schwankhaus, Blake Luechtefeld and fiancée, Kimberly Hoffmann, Kimber Tweedy, Alyse Tweedy; great grandchildren, Paisley and Quinton Forgey, Latch Brammeier, Grace Mantia and Trevor Neer; sister-in-law, Carol Koeller Dobyns; and numerous family and friends.

Visitation: From 4 to 8 PM Monday, Jan. 3, 2022 and from 9 to 10 AM Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022 at St. Liborius Catholic Church in St. Libory, IL.
Funeral: A funeral Mass will be held 10 AM Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022 at St. Liborius Catholic Church with Father Paul Wienhoff celebrating. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Liborius Catholic Cemetery.
