Jakob Markus Reuther

July 22, 1994 — November 27, 2022

Jakob Markus Reuther, 28, of Shiloh, IL, born July 22, 1994, in Kronach, Germany died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022, at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

At 6:30 pm on November 27th we said our last goodbye to the light of our lives. He was the most joyous, funniest, happiest person that we have ever known. He loved his Amazon Alexa, he loved his dog Shelby and before Shelby, Nelson, he loved listening to podcasts in his van, and he loved us fiercely, especially his sister Emily and his brother Lukas.  And we loved him back with everything that we had and more! He never met a stranger, and he never forgot your name or voice. Even in the 6 weeks that he was in the ICU at Barnes hospital, he touched the lives of all the staff there. He made a difference in their lives, and they never hesitated to tell us that! Rainer and I stayed with Jakob around the clock for six weeks. We have been doing that his whole life. We never left his side anytime he was hospitalized. He deserved that. He deserved our full attention, and we are forever grateful that we got to spend so much time with him for 6 straight weeks! We will forever remember his laughter and his singing! He knew all the words to any song that he heard! He loved all genres of music, whether it was Rap or Country music! And of course, we can’t forget sports. His beloved St. Louis Cardinals, the Rams for the time they were here, and now the Kansas City Chiefs and of course the St. Louis Blues! We were planning to take him to some MLS games next year, because he’s half German and soccer (Fussball) runs in his blood! Camp Barnabas was his favorite place to go for a summer break and we will forever be grateful to them! And of course, the day program through Community Link that he attended for the last 5 years, he was loved by so many people there! We are not sure how we will navigate the next days, months, or years without our boy. One thing we do know is that he is at peace. He is no longer suffering and for that we are thankful! May your light shine forever our sweet sweet boy!

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandpa, John Forster, paternal opa, Reinhold Reuther, and a service dog, Nelson.

Surviving are his parents, Laura L. Forster-Reuther and Rainer J. Reuther; two siblings, Emily and Lukas Reuther; maternal grandma, Dorothy “Bonnie” Forster; paternal oma, Barbara Reuther; godfather, Günther Reuther; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his service dog, Shelby.

In lieu of all other gifts memorials may be made to Camp Barnabas, 901 Teas Trl #2060, Purdy, MO 65734, http://www.campbarnabas.org or Community Link, 1665 N 4th St, Breese, IL 62230. Condolences may be shared with the family by visiting mollfuneralhome.com
