Edward J. Karpel, 85, of New Baden, IL, born May 4, 1939, in Lookingglass Township entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at his residence. He was a retired Machine Adjuster/Project Coordinator at Proctor & Gamble, St. Louis, MO, which he retired from. Ed loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed going to Tractor Pulls/Shows, Stock Car Races, gardening, baking, traveling, playing cards, dancing, and polka festivals. Ed mastered sausage and wine making. Ed collected Hess trucks and toy tractors. He was a member of St. George Catholic Church, New Baden, IL, former member of Holy Childhood of Jesus Catholic Church, Mascoutah, IL, a member of Mascoutah Moose Lodge #815, Knights of Columbus Council #4380, Southern Illinois Green Iron Club, Mascoutah Improvement Association, former member of American Thresherman Association and Elks Lodge #664, and a United States Air Force Reserve veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacquelyn “Jackie” nee Kehrer, Karpel whom he married May 29,1963, in New Baden, IL, and who died on March 20, 2020, his parents, Frank and Laurinda, nee Biebel, Karpel, a brother Robert (Lucille) Karpel, sister, Ruth (Ralph) Wilhelm, brother-in-law, Gordon Kehrer, sister-in-law and brother-in law, Beverly (Joseph) Przygoda.

He is survived by his sons, Danial (Jo Ann, nee Fohne) Karpel of Collinsville, IL and Donald (Angela, nee Hillen) Karpel of Mascoutah, IL, four grandchildren, Brandon, Dana (fiancé, Cole Diercks), Ryan, and Brittany, a sister-in-law, Cindy Kehrer, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

VISITATION: From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, March 24, 2025, and 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL. There will be a Prayer Service 5:30 p.m. and a Moose Ritual 7:00 p.m. Monday evening.

FUNERAL: A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden, IL with Fr. George Zieba celebrating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, New Baden, IL.
