It is with great sadness to announce Dorothy T. Surmeier, nee Kramper, 82, of Venedy, IL, born April 23, 1940, in Venedy, IL, passed away Friday, January 27, 2023, at Friendship Manor in Nashville, IL surrounded by family.
Dorothy was a homemaker, wife, and mother of two beloved children. For a period of her early married life, she worked as a seamstress at Martha Manning Dress Factory in Mascoutah, IL. Years later, she was a cook for Johannisburg Grade School and then finished her working career at the Okawville Dairy Queen and was admired by many. She was a member of St. Liborius Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 683 in St. Libory, IL . Dorothy enjoyed life and had many admired qualities. Much of her time was spent socializing, going out for activities, and taking drives with her husband, Andy. She found great joy in playing cards with friends and family, vacationing, bowling, and dancing. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as participating in their life events.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Louise C., nee Buescher, Kramper, her husband, Andrew J. Surmeier, whom she married at St. Liborius Catholic Church on May 30, 1963 and who died on January 16, 2021, a son, Steven Surmeier, a sister in infancy, Ruth Kramper, a nephew, Darrell Surmeier, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ben and Emma, nee Hesker, Surmeier, and two brothers-in-law, Robert and Ralph Surmeier.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Andrew) Kirchner of Nashville, IL; five grandchildren, Becky (Michael) Palko of O’Fallon, IL, Cindy (Beau) McDonald of Houston, TX, Allison Kirchner of Clayton, MO, Joe Kirchner of Lexington, KY, Haley Surmeier of Chester, IL; four great grandchildren with one on the way, Theo Palko, Maren McDonald, Killian and Kailer; sister-in-law, Eileen Surmeier; three nieces, Lynn (Dave) McCammon, Shelly (Mike) Comley, Sara (Jim) Rockaway; also survived by numerous great nieces, great nephews, great-great nephews and cousins.

Funeral: A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at St. Liborius Catholic Church with Father Nick Fleming celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Liborius Catholic Cemetery, St. Libory, IL.
