Donald J. Otten, 87, of St. Libory, IL born May 8, 1936, in St. Libory, IL died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO.
Donald was a retired carpenter working 70 years for Local 480. He was the owner and operator of Otten Construction Inc. Don was a member of the St. Liborius Catholic Church, American Legion Post 683, St. Libory, IL, New Athens Knights of Columbus Council 3789, NRA, the Catholic Knights and Ladies of IL, and a U.S Air Force veteran. He graduated from Marissa High school in 1954 and from Chicago Tech in drafting and blueprinting. Don was a very talented woodworker, and enjoyed being in his happy place, his wood shop. He loved being outdoors, hunting, and fishing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman B. and Catherine, nee Sommer, Otten, a daughter, Mary Otten (in infancy), a brother, Eugene Otten, sister-in-law, Mary (Leonard) Luechetfeld, brother-in-law, Raphael (Irma) Lintker.
He is survived by his wife, Rita A., nee Lintker, Otten whom he married at St. Liborius Catholic Church, St. Libory, IL on Sept. 11, 1962; four children, James (Adrienne) Otten of St. Libory, IL, Julie (Brian) Doherty of St. Louis, MO, Sheila (Rodney) Triefenbach of St. Libory, IL, Michael (Lisa) Otten of Smithton, IL; 13 grandchildren, Mackenzie (Kyle) Heckert, Tori Otten, Zach (Mariel) Keller, Shane (Michaela) Doherty, Casey, Brett, Colin, Maura Doherty, Ashley (Brad) Hundelt, Joshua (Kayla) Triefenbach, Benjamin (Faith Middendorf) Triefenbach, Dylan and Emma Otten; seven great grandchildren, Kiya and Oakley Heckert, Louis Doherty, Henry, Elsie, Lucy Hundelt, Charlie Triefenbach; brother, Charles (Jane) Otten of St. Libory, IL; sister, Mary Ann (Don) Haas of Mascoutah, IL; three brothers-in-law, Robert (Laverne) Lintker, Andrew (Rosemary) Lintker, Dan (Bernie) Jansen.

VISITATION: From 4 to 8 PM Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023, and from 9 to 10 AM Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, at St. Liborius Catholic Church, St. Libory, IL.
FUNERAL: A funeral Mass will be held 10 AM Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, at St. Liborius Catholic Church with Father Mark Stec and Father Paul Wienhoff concelebrating. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Liborius Catholic Cemetery.
