Darrell D. DeWitt, 89, of Belleville, IL, born Feb. 11, 1931 in Laurel, IA died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020 at his home. Darrell was born and raised in Central Iowa with the New Providence, Clemons and Union area being where he lived as a young child. His family later moved to Laurel.
Darrell was a retired CMSgt. from the USAF and also retired from Vi-Jan Laboratories, Inc. where he worked as the manager of Warehousing Operations. Darrell had a very distinguished military career having literally lived around the world. He played a key role in our war times and in peace times. Standards are in place today because of him. He will always be known as “Chief” by those who knew his work.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur J. and Isal, nee Hamilton, DeWitt, Sr., wife, Nancy E., nee Nishimura, DeWitt whom he married in Tokyo, Japan and who died Dec. 16, 2018; his brother, Arthur K. DeWitt, Jr., of Marshaltown, who died on May 15, 2018, as well as siblings, James “Seymor,” Margaret, Wadena, Everett, and Alta
He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Moore (Polock); grandchildren, Chris Siltz and Katherine Moore, whos is currently serving in the military in Germany; sister-in-law, Beverly DeWitt; nieces, nephews and his many friends and acquaintances at Sax Speedi Chek in Mascoutah, near his home.
