Elizabeth A. "Betty" Marietta

Elizabeth A. “Betty” Marietta, nee Benz, 93, of Mascoutah, IL, born July 19, 1923 in Mascoutah, IL, died Saturday, July 1, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was a graduate of MacMurray College for Women in Jacksonville, IL; a kindergarten teacher and reading specialist with 40+ years at the Mascoutah School District 19; member of St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah and past church council member; former member of Delta Kappa Gamma; member of the Illinois Teachers Assn., and American Association of University Women.

Betty loved nature in all forms, and any stray animals that were in need of a home, food, shelter or care.  She also was an avid gardener who loved wildflowers.  In addition, she raised many beautiful orchids.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Adelia E., nee Justus, Benz; her husband William L. Marietta whom she married in Mascoutah, IL on June 9, 1946 and who died July 25, 1983; a grandson, Peter Allen White; a sister, Jeanette Garvin; and two nephews, Boyce and Gregory Garvin.

She is survived by two daughters, Andree B. Ireland and David A. Lucas of Lynnville, IN, and Tina A. M. Setterlund and Grady A. White of Mascoutah, IL; five grandchildren, Tiffany (John) Stream, Lindsey (Ben) Robak, Drew (Anna) Ireland, Reid Setterlund, and Lauren (Jayson) Baker; 12 great-grandchildren, Trey, Alex, Jack and Caroline Stream, Casey, Andrew and Emma Robak, Elizabeth and Emily Ireland, Logan Setterlund, Emmett Benz Baker, and Adelia Elise Baker.  She will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Moll Funeral Home, Mascoutah, IL and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2017 at St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah, IL.
