Linda Kay, nee Jones, Evelsizer passed from this life to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, Apr. 15, 2017, at Eden Village Care Facility in Glen Carbon, IL, after a courageous five year battle with Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was born July 25, 1945, in Henrietta, TX, the eighth of nine children born to Gerald E. and Sarah Anna, nee Cherry, Jones. She married her loving husband, Darwin Evelsizer June 6, 1964 at Sheppard Air Force Base, TX, and had a wonderful marriage of nearly 53 years. The marriage produced a son, a daughter and three grandsons, all of whom were the light of her life and she was truly in ecstasy when they were with her.
She served her country and family as a military wife and mother for 20 years of her husband’s 21 year US Air Force career, especially the 11 total years he served away from home and family while she was mother, father, homemaker, chauffeur and problem solver to her children. She worked as a Certified Teacher’s Aide both in California and Guam, then four years as a Fabric Consultant at Cloth World and finally 28 years for Wal Mart, retiring in 2012 when she was medically unable to continue working. She served as a volunteer adult leader with the Boy Scouts of American for over 10 years and was active in her church, St. Martin of Tours Lutheran Church in Mascoutah, IL.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Lorene Evelsizer; brother, Walter, KIA in 1950 in Korea; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mattie (Maurice) Patterson, Mary (Bascom) Nelson, Zula (James Borgman and Cecil Willis) Borgman Willis, Virginia (J D) Coker, and infant sister, Ruby Jean.
She is survived by her husband, Darwin of Maryville, IL; son, David (Stephanie) Evelsizer of Ste. Genevieve, MO; daughter, Lisa (Chris) Wilson of Troy, IL, grandsons, Mitchell, Dane, and Reese; brother, Virgil (Gail) Jones of Cary, NC; and a sister, Jane Jones of Henrietta, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family thanks all of the doctors, nurses and staff at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, especially Dr. Tonya Russell and Dr. Victor Davila, for the fantastic, caring and professional treatment they provided to Linda over the last five years.
