Kathleen I. Scanlan, nee Mueller, 67, of Venedy, IL, born in Belleville, IL on July 27, 1949, passed away at Belleville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, Mar. 28, 2017 surrounded by her husband and immediate family.
Kathleen grew up in New Memphis, IL where she was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. She was a 1967 graduate of Wesclin High School. Kathleen graduated from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, earning her registered nurse license on Aug. 30, 1970. She was a caring and compassionate nurse to many patients and their families during her 37 year career at Belleville Memorial Hospital. Her legacy will live on through those she touched during her many years on 3 South.
After Kathleen retired on Jan. 2, 2011, she enjoyed planting flowers, making various craft projects and spoiling her special kitty, L. B. She always looked forward to seeing her daughters and family. During retirement, she enjoyed several trips to Walt Disney World with her immediate family and most recently, a trip to Beaver Creek, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Ida Mae, nee Harms, Mueller; maternal grandparents, Edward and Hilda, nee Riebold, Harms; and paternal grandparents, Rev. Almar and Gisela, nee Zellmer, Mueller, Sr.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald Scanlan whom she married at St. Peter Lutheran Church in New Memphis on May 22, 1971; two daughters, Khristine (Christopher) Kozlov of Gurnee, IL, and Lisa Scanlan of St. Louis, MO; two sisters, JoAnn (Willis) Harriss of Stone Church, IL, and Elaine Markus of Albers, IL; a brother, Daniel Mueller of Brunswick, GA; two sisters-in-law, Janice Scanlan, and Marilyn (Robert) Castens; three aunts, Kathryn Jo (Dale) Trinka, Emma Lou Mueller, and Lillian Mueller; an uncle, Paul (Marianna) Wolters; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, countless special friends, colleagues, and fellow registered nurses at Memorial Hospital.
Kathleen was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed life’s simple pleasures and always wanted others to feel special. Her loving presence will be cherished and her smile will live on.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Mar. 31, 2017 at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL; and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 1, 2017 at St. Salvator Lutheran Church, Venedy, IL.
Funeral: A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at St. Salvator Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Harriss (Kathleen’s nephew) officiating. Burial will be in St. Salvator Lutheran Church Cemetery.
