Marie D. Morris, nee Betts, 92, formerly of Mascoutah, IL, born Dec. 3, 1924, in Bridgeville, DE, passed away on Friday, Mar. 17, 2017 at Mercy Rehab &Care Center in Swansea, IL.
Marie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a devoted military wife. During her husband’s 30 plus year military career which covered three wars, World War II, Korea and Vietnam, she took great pride in maintaining the home for her husband and children no matter where they may have been stationed. After her husband’s retirement, they elected to make their permanent home in Mascoutah, IL to be close to their children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved to watch her daily soap operas. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Mascoutah, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Helen, nee Littleton, Betts; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Dorothy, nee Kennedy, Morris; her husband of 63 years, Robert L. Morris whom she married Feb. 6, 1945 in Wilmington, DE and who passed away on Sept. 15, 2008 in Mascoutah, IL; a brother, William Betts; six brothers-in-law, Leo, Richard, Ronald, and Charles Morris, David Martens, and Clarence Bells; and two sisters-in-law, Irene Betts, and Virginia Morris; two nephews, David Martens and David Betts.
Surviving her are a son, Robert L. (Sandra) Morris of Fairview Heights, IL; a daughter, Kathy A. (Thomas) Holdener of Belleville, IL; five grandchildren, Mendi (Michael) Valenti of Waukee, IA, Joe Morris of Fairview Heights, IL, Chad (Lauren) Morris of Las Cruces, NM, Taran Holdener of O’Fallon, IL, and Tyler (Amy Gaultney) Holdener of Mascoutah, IL; two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Coltrane Morris; a sister, Ruth Ann Martens of New Castle, DE; a brother, Ronald (Cecelia) Betts of Newark, DE; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Bells of Bend, OR, and Willie Morris of Forest Grove, OR; nieces and nephews.

Funeral: A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Mar. 20, 2017 at Bethel United Methodist Church with Pastor Andrew Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Mascoutah City Cemetery.
