Mary M. Haas, nee Billhartz, 89, of Mascoutah, IL, born Aug. 10, 1927, in New Baden, IL, died Monday, Mar. 6, 2017 at MarKa Nursing Home in Mascoutah.

Mary was a member of Holy Childhood of Jesus Catholic Church, HCCCW, and Mascoutah Senior Center.  She also enjoyed quilting, playing cards, traveling, and being a member of the Red Hat Society.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. Haas, whom she married on May 18, 1949, in New Baden, IL, and who died Jan. 20, 1989; her parents, Harry and Agnes, nee Griesbaum, Billhartz; Richard's parents, Oscar and Elsie nee Wombacher, Haas; a brother, Paul Billhartz; brothers-in-law, George Lanter, Harold Wright, James Krohne, Urban “Blondie” Haas, Cyril “Skip” Haas, Stanley “Hack” Haas, Bill Busch, and a sister-in-law, Sylvia (Haas) Busch.

Surviving are her four children and their spouses, Dale (Kathi) Haas of Belleville, IL, Jane (Rob) McKenzie of Daytona Beach, FL, Denis (Lynn) Haas of Swansea, IL, and Dean (Tonya) Haas of Evansville, IN; eight grandchildren, Kim (Doug) Harry, John Haas, Scott McKenzie, Brian (Tia) McKenzie, Crystal Haas, David (Jessica Riedel) Haas, Kyle Haas, and Ryan Haas; two brothers, Vincent & Denis Billhartz; six sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Haas, Margaret "Tookie" (Virgil) Reinhardt, Catherine "Kitty" Lanter, Veronica "Patsy" Wright, Agnes "Nellie" (Clinton) Buechler, Mary Ann Krohne; and two sisters-in-law, Jane Haas, and Ruth Billhartz. She will be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, her adopted Hund family, and many friends.

Visitation: Respecting Mary's request, there will be a private visitation for family members only.

Funeral: A Mass celebrating her life will be held 10 AM Saturday, Mar. 11, 2017 at Holy Childhood of Jesus Catholic Church in Mascoutah, IL with Father Paul Wienhoff officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery in Mascoutah, IL.
