Leo A. Wilhelm, 88, of Mascoutah, IL, born Sept. 10, 1928 in Mascoutah Township, IL, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016 at his residence.
Leo was retired from Mascoutah Equipment Company with 46 years of service, 30 years as an employee and 16 years as part owner. He was a lifetime member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah; past president of the Holy Name Society; member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 4380, Mascoutah; member and past Commander of the American Legion Post 292, Mascoutah; 20 year member and retired Captain of the Mascoutah Volunteer Fire Dept.; past president and member of the Mascoutah Horseshoe League; board member of the Mascoutah Senior Center; and a Korean War Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph O. and Anne, nee Voegele, Wilhelm; his wife, Alice, nee Kniepmann, Wilhelm whom he married in Germantown, IL on May 6, 1953 and who died July 20, 2015; a son-in-law, Dale Kinzel; six brothers, Roman, Meinard, Erwin, Ralph, Joseph J., and Herb Wilhelm; three sisters-in-law, Marcella, Delores, and Eunice Wilhelm; and two brothers-in-law, Preston Blake, and Bruce Markwardt.
Surviving are three sons, Gary (Tricia) Wilhelm of Nashville, IL, Wayne (Sandy) Wilhelm, Steven (Sarah) Wilhelm, all of Mascoutah, IL; three daughters, Patti (Kenny) Jacobs of Okawville, IL, Karen Kinzel of Freeburg, IL, and Janice (Jim) Day of New Baden, IL; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; dear friend, Barb Sutter; a brother, Marcel Wilhelm of Belleville, IL; four sisters, Martha (John) Henrichs of Breese, IL, Sr. Janet Marie Wilhelm of Ruma, IL, Rose Markwardt of Belleville, IL, and Ann (Phil) Sherry of Santa Maria, CA; four sisters-in-law, Ruth Wilhelm of Freeburg, IL, Dolores Wilhelm and Darlene Wilhelm of Belleville, IL; and Darlene Schaperkoetter of Mascoutah, IL; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation : visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Friday, Dec. 30, 2016 and from 9 to 9:40 AM Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL. There will be a Mascoutah Volunteer Fire Dept. walk through at 6:30 PM Friday evening.
Funeral : a funeral Mass will be held 10 AM Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah with Fr. Paul Wienhoff and Fr. Jerry Hechenberger officiating. Interment will be in Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery, Mascoutah, IL.
