Josephine S. Averbeck

Josephine S. Averbeck, nee Luecking, 91, of St. Libory, IL, born July 26, 1924 in Germantown, IL, died Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the Freeburg Care Center in Freeburg, IL.

She was a member of St. Liborius Catholic Church in St. Libory, IL; the Rosary Sodality; a 50 year member of Catholic Holy Family Society Council 37 of St. Libory; member and past regent of Ave Maria Circle #980 Daughters of Isabella New Athens, IL; member and past president of the St. Libory American Legion Auxiliary.

Along with her husband Henry, they raised and nurtured a family, ran a farm, and also remained active in the community.  Her legacy will live on in her children and descendants.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry J. and Catherine, nee Bohnenkemper, Luecking, Sr.; her husband, Henry A. Averbeck whom she married in St. Libory, IL on Jan. 5, 1943 and who died May 7, 1998; three children, Leroy and Donald Averbeck, and Louise Derringer; son-in-law, Garry Derringer; 11 brothers and sisters, Joe (Annie) Luecking, Sr., Mary (Louis) Mueller, Ben (Rose) Luecking, Johanna (Al) Beer, Veronica (Jake) Pruett, Lawrence (Lydia) Luecking, Alvina (George) Weyerich, George (Wilhemenia) Luecking, Alphonse (Dorothy) Luecking, Henry (Rita) Luecking, Ferdinand (Armella) Luecking; two brothers-in-law, Raymond Stoecklin, and Vincent Trentman.

She is survived by six children, James (Jackie R.) Averbeck of Waterloo, IL, Joan Derringer of Ellis Grove, IL, David (Karen) Averbeck of Marissa, IL, Mark (Diane) Averbeck of New Minden, IL, Brenda (Stephen) Greaney of Lively Grove, IL, and Leon (Brenda) Averbeck of Lively Grove, IL; son-in-law, Larry Derringer; daughter-in-law, Lynn Averbeck; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and expecting two more; three great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday, July 20, 2016 and from 9 to 10 AM Thursday, July 21, 2016 at St. Liborius Catholic Church in St. Libory, IL.
