Carlyn D. Rehbein, 79, of Mascoutah, IL, born Sept. 16, 1936 in Engelmann Twp., IL died Friday, Feb. 19, 2016 at BJC, Queeny Towers, St. Louis, MO.

Carlyn was a U. S. Army veteran, a mechanic at Renth Motors, an electrician at Peabody Coal Co., small engine repairman at Shiloh Valley Equipment and was a devoted Cardinal’s baseball fan and loved Saturday night poker with his friends.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 56 years, LaVerne, nee Morse, Rehbein whom he married in Mascoutah, IL on Nov. 28, 1959; the apple of his eye, daughter, Tracy of Mascoutah; granddaughters, Claire and Anne; his kitties; brothers, Robert (Lois) and Allan (Lyla) Rehbein; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death, by his parents, Henry, Sr. and Martha, nee Hughes, Rehbein, four brothers, Henry, Jr., William, Kenneth, Donald Rehbein, two sisters, Eileen Holcomb, Marjorie Odem, mother-in-law, Wayve Morse and brother-in-law, Lowell Morse.

In lieu of all other gifts memorial donations may be made to the family.

In the words of his family, Carlyn was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was the sweetest, kindest man who never had a bad word to say about anyone. He made the world a better place with his great love for his family, his big heart and gentle soul. He was a stoic, hard-working man who put his family first. He was a role model for his daughter and granddaughters and he was proud of his family. He gave his granddaughter, Claire, her love and passion for Cardinal’s baseball. God broke the mold when he made you! You will be forever remembered and missed in our hearts.

Funeral: A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
