Darrel F. “Doc” Funk, 66, of Mascoutah, IL, born Sept. 13, 1949 in Belleville, IL, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2015 at his “home away from home” in Pinckneyville, IL.
Darrel was a crop consultant for Crop Production Services; was past president and member of Southern Illinois Fertilizer and Pesticide Conference; past president and member of Mascoutah FFA Alumni; St. Clair County Farm Bureau; and served in the US Army as a medic in the Screaming Eagles 101 st Airborne Division Dirty Delta Troop 2/17 th Calvary during the Vietnam war. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals, Air Medal Award, Combat Medical Badge Award, and the Army Commendation Medal. Darrel was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Ruth, nee Curry, Funk; a grandson, Max; a brother, Dean Funk; three sisters, Nelda Koch, Sharon Kaemmerer, and Sandra Peterson; two brothers-in-law, Norman Koch and George Kaemmerer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur and Area Reissen.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, nee, Reissen, Funk whom he married in Belleville, IL on June 30, 1973; a daughter, Jennifer Funk and husband, Andrew Pani of Belleville, IL; three grandchildren, Sydney, Cole, and Darcy; a brother, Arnold (Inez) Funk of New Braunfels, TX; four sisters, Bonnie (Charles) Nesbit of Belleville, IL, Jewel Baker of Belleville, IL, Peggy Whitlow of TX, and Mary Beth (Donald) Finney of Burlington, MA; a brother-in-law, George Peterson of Mascoutah, IL; a sister-in-law, Mary Beth Reissen, SSND; dear friends, Mark Press and family; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of all other gifts, memorials may be made in memory of Darrel to Treehouse Wildlife Center, 23956 Green Acres Rd., Dow, IL 62022; or to any other wildlife organization of choice. Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting mollfuneralhome.com.
Visitation : Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.
Funeral : A funeral service will be held 10 AM Friday, Oct. 2, 2015 at Moll Funeral Home with Chaplain Tim Harrison of McKendree University officiating. Cremation will follow.
