Carol D. Klopmeyer, nee Stahl, 82, of Mascoutah, IL, born Oct. 6, 1932 in Mascoutah, IL, died Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the MarKa Nursing Home in Mascoutah.
Carol was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed traveling, gardening and historical preservation. A graduate of McKendree University, she taught history, geography and math at Mascoutah Junior High School for 18 years and worked in partnership with her husband, Jack, in Klopmeyer Construction. Carol was a charter member of the Mascoutah Historical Society, serving as President for many years and was instrumental in the establishment of the Burger-Keil House and the Mascoutah Heritage Museum. In 2000, she was also honored as the recipient of the Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award and in 2014, was recognized as an Academy of Excellence Inductee with McKendree University.
Carol was an active member of St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah serving as President of the Church Council and enjoying the Fireside Group activities. She was awarded a Lifetime Service Award by the Mascoutah Chamber of Commerce, served on the Mascoutah Library Board for 25 years, recognized as a Woman of Achievement with Zonta International Club, and delivered meals for 20 years to shut-ins as part of the Mascoutah Senior Services program.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer H. and Norma K., nee Klingel, Stahl; a granddaughter, Erin Klopmeyer; and brothers-in-law, Mackey Real, Charles Klopmeyer, Kenneth Lewis, and Hugh Miller.
Carol was married to Jack for over 60 years and they enjoyed traveling and spending quality time with family and friends. Surviving besides Jack are her two children, Susan (Harold) Friederich of Mascoutah, IL, and Michael (Susan) Klopmeyer of Elgin, IL; five grandchildren, Kurt Friederich of Telluride, CO, Keith Friederich of Shanghai, China, Kyle Friederich of St. Louis, MO, Steven Klopmeyer of Bozeman, MT, and Lauren Klopmeyer of New York City, NY; her sister, Janet Real of Queen Creek, AZ; brother-in-law, Robert Klopmeyer of Mascoutah, IL; and sister-in-law, Florence Miller of Clemons, IA.

Visitation : visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Monday, Aug. 3, 2015 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL, and from 9 to 10 AM Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015 at St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah, IL.
Funeral : a funeral service will be held 10 AM Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015 at St. John United Church of Christ with the Rev. Hugh Fitz officiating. Interment will be in Mascoutah City Cemetery.
