Violet Mae Kennedy

February 14, 1933 — July 5, 2015

Violet Mae Kennedy, nee Holcomb, 82, of Mascoutah, IL, born Feb. 14, 1933 in E. St. Louis, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5, 2015.

Mae graduated from East St. Louis Senior High School in 1951; and then worked as a telephone operator at AT&T; drove the book mobile in E. St. Louis; and also was a Bi-State Bus Driver. She retired from the Mascoutah School District #19 in 1993 (1973-1993) as a school bus driver and from the Leu Civic Center as Director in 1993 (1978-1993).  Mae served as the Treasurer from 1973-1975 and President from 1975-1976 of the West Point Parent’s Club of St. Louis. She was a member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church, Mascoutah.

She was an avid bowler at Shop City Bowling Alley in E. St. Louis and Midway Bowl in Fairview Heights, for many years. Mae was best known for her homemade pies. She, along with her longtime partner Ray Teliczan, Sr. were devout racing fans who attended the annual Indy 500 and Michigan 400 Races along with many other races. Mae was a judge for several years at the Mr. Mascoutah contest.

She was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Raymond J. Teliczan, Sr., husband, Robert Gerald Kennedy; her parents, George and Christine, nee Grimm, Holcomb; a brother, Thomas Holcomb; sisters, Geraldine Boschenreither and Margaret Rose Kennedy; sisters-in-law, Amelia and Sue Holcomb; brothers-in-law, Joseph Boschenreither and Robert Kennedy.

Surviving are her children, Dennis (Francesca) Kennedy of Chantilly, VA, Karen (John) Kelley of Norristown, PA, Kerry (Ann) Kennedy of Virginia Beach, VA, and Robin (Ron) Schoenherr of St. Libory, IL; grandchildren, Amy (Matt) Stuttle nee Schoenherr, Angela Schoenherr, Amanda Kennedy, Shea (Andrew) Sines nee Kelley, Mackenzie Kelley, Devon Kelley, Soames (Jennifer) Newsome, and Shayne (Kacey) Newsome; great grandchildren, Kipton Stuttle, Josh Mullins, Aero and Zeph Newsome, Rosemary (Charles) Adkinson; great-great grandchild, Asher Adkinson; a brother, Marvin Holcomb of Orlando, FL; and many loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of all other gifts, memorials may be made to the Mascoutah Leu Civic Center; or the Mascoutah Senior Citizen’s Meal on Wheels Program. Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting mollfuneralhome.com.

Visitation : There will be no visitation.

Funeral : a memorial Mass for Mae and Ray will be held 11 AM Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah with Father Paul Wienhoff and Father Elmar Mauer officiating. Private interment for Mae will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
