Colonel Robert H. Voss, USAF retired, 93, of Swansea IL, born April 18,1922 in Chicago, IL died Thursday, June 11, 2015 at his home, surrounded by family.
Robert served 33 years as an Air Force officer. He began as a B-17 pilot, flying 35 missions during WW2, all before reaching age 23. His many decorations include five WW2 air medals, Air Force Commendation and Meritorious Service medals, Air Force Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, and France’s highest award, the French Legion of Honor. He and his family lived in Panama, Trinidad, Virginia, Hawaii, Germany, California, Texas, and the Metro East, where Robert served two duty tours at Scott AFB. Robert loved being with his family, travelling, his Maryland Terps, golf, joking with all people, a good cocktail at happy hour, and reading, a pastime he enjoyed until his very last days. Meeting and being with Dorothy were the greatest events in his life, and their life together was wonderful.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Helen, nee Rennwald, Voss and his older brother, George.
He is survived by his constant companion and beloved wife of 72 years, Dorothy R. Voss, nee Kuxhousen, two sons, Robert (Nada) Voss of Aurora IL, and Ronald (Diane) Voss of Mascoutah IL, a daughter Pamela (William) Tottleben of Swansea IL; grandchildren, Robert Voss of Aurora IL, Heather (Jeremy) Bain of Belleville IL, Kurt Rieckenburg of Swansea IL, Benjamin Voss of Springfield IL; great-grandson, Henrik Bain; friends, as well as nieces, cousins and other relatives, including a brother-in-law, Willard (Barbara) Kuxhousen.
The family is forever grateful for the care provided by Vitas Hospice and the family’s additional team of private caregivers. Thanks Lauren, Lori, Whitney, Leslie, Chris, Ron, Shannon, Renee, Heather, Amanda, and Amber.
Robert and Dorothy are members of Zion Lutheran Church in Mascoutah IL where Robert served as chairman. Thank you to Pastor Kirk Clayton, his family, and the congregation of Zion Lutheran.

VISITATION: From 9:30 to 11:30 AM Monday, June 15, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mascoutah, IL.
FUNERAL: 11:30 AM Monday, June 15 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Kirk Clayton officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO with U. S. Air Force military honors.
