Hilda C. Hummert, 88, of St. Libory, IL born on October 29, 1926 near St. Libory, died on March 7, 2015 at MarKa Nursing Home in Mascoutah, IL. Our loss is heaven’s gain, as our incredible mother, grandmother and great-grandmother won her eternal reward.
Hilda was a kind and gentle soul who was a friend to all. She was often the first person that family and friends would call upon when they needed help. She was a hard worker through-out her life, and did so with joy. She was employed at Eagle Range in Belleville, IL for 24 years. Hilda was also known for her great baking and cooking skills. Her biggest joy was spending time with her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren still tell stories of all the fun they had camping with grandma and the family get-togethers at grandma’s house. Hilda would move heaven and earth to make her family happy.
Hilda was a member of St. Liborius Catholic Church, St. Libory Rosary Sodality, St. Libory American Legion Auxiliary, and the Home Extension. Over the years, she served in leadership roles in these organizations.
She was united in marriage to Harrison Luechtefeld on June 9, 1948, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 1967. Five children were born to this marriage – Linda, Kathy, Sandra, Harry and Tom. She later married Cletus G. Hummert on July 6, 1974, and he preceded her in death on September 12, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Anna, nee Dingwerth, Beelman; her husbands; a daughter, Sandra (in infancy); brothers and sisters-in-law, Hugo and Rose Beelman, Leonard and Mary Beelman, and Sylvester Beelman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bertha and George Buescher, Clara and Mike Berra, and Eleanor and Bill Haddock; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, LeRoy Luechtefeld, Ray Luechtefeld, Viola Beste, Russel Kehrer, Adeline and Leo Luechtefeld, Albert and Jewel Hummert, Lawrence Hummert; and a great-grandson, Beau Luechtefeld.
She is survived by her children, Linda Joynt, Kathleen (Joe) Schrage, Harry (Lee Ann) Luechtefeld, and Tom (Kathy) Luechtefeld; grandchildren, Jeff Hesker, Jason (Melinda) Hesker, Joe (Barb) Schrage, Rick (Lisa) Schrage, Luke Luechtefeld, Elyse (Max) Sallman, Tom (Angie) Luechtefeld, and Jodi Luechtefeld; great grandchildren, Zachary, Abigail, Cameron, Jacob, Alyssa, and Aidyn Hesker; Benjamin and Jacob Schrage; Hunter and Braden Schrage; Brooke, Harley, and Caitlyn Luechtefeld; and Harper Sallman; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Esther Kehrer, Dot Luechtefeld, Mary Ann Luechtefeld, and Edgar and Dora Hummert.
Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association; Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc., or to the St. Liborius Rosary Sodality.
Visitation and Memorial Mass: Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at St. Liborius Catholic Church, St. Libory IL. A memorial mass will follow at 11:00 AM with Father Paul Wienhoff and Deacon Andy Lintker officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
