Stephen R. Middendorff

September 1, 1958 — February 9, 2015

Stephen R. Middendorff, 56, of O’Fallon, IL formerly of Mascoutah, IL, born Sept. 1, 1958 in Belleville, IL, passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, Feb. 9, 2015.

For those of us blessed to know and love Stephen we cannot express the deep sadness in our hearts because we know he was one of a kind and irreplaceable. He was unique, loving, and fun-loving; a loyal soul with a deep passion for boating, camping with our special group, and the outdoors. His life was wholeheartedly dedicated to the love of his life, Nancy, his children, Angela and Kevin, and Michael, whom he treated like his own. He also had a special and unique bond with his brother Robert and his family, and “Frank”, and truly treasured every moment with them.

He had a long running profession as a union painter and was a member of International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, District Council 58, and as with his family, he put all of himself into his profession and did it with deep pride.

Stephen didn’t know a stranger and if there is a “greeter” at the gates of Heaven, he’s been hired on the spot. He always found time to make new friends, stop for a chat with neighbors and old friends, and was always ready to extend a helping hand. He was a man of simple measure and when he gave, it was 100% with all his heart. God has gained a true and just angel.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lorita, nee Bene’, Middendorff; a sister, Louise Meyerkord; and the mother of his children, Ruth A. Middendorff.

Surviving are his children, Angela Middendorff (friend Stephen “Frank” Hacker), and Kevin Middendorff of O’Fallon, IL; Stephen’s loving companion, Nancy Lang and her son Michael Carroll of O’Fallon, IL; brothers and sisters, Allen (Debbie) Middendorff of Thurmont, MD, Elaine (Gordon) Persaud of Lee’s Summit, MO, Leonard (Renee) Middendorff of Terrell, TX, Jane (Dennis) Haake of Belleville, IL, Karen (Terry) Szymczyk of Owens Cross Roads, AL, and Robert (Shelley) Middendorff of Marissa, IL; numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and a host of extended family and friends.

Memorials may be made to the family and will be received at the funeral home.
