Victor G. Shubert

Victor G. Shubert, Sr., 98, of Lively Grove (Coulterville), IL, born Mar. 14, 1916 in Lively Grove Twp., IL, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2014 at Sparta Community Hospital, Sparta, IL.

He was a lifelong dairy farmer and after retirement he spent 25 years as a seed inspector for (ICIA) Illinois Crop Improvement Association for 14 southern Illinois counties.  He was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Stone Church, IL where he served on various committees; he served on grade school, high school and regional school boards; played Santa Claus for over 50 years for numerous events; was chairman of the Washington County Ag Extension Council; helped develop the Washington Co. Water Company and served as vice-chairman for many years; he faithfully served on numerous other community and agricultural organizations.

He was the youngest of seven children and was preceded in death by his parents, Ganeus and Clemence, nee Favre, Shubert; four sisters, Frances Karg, Mabel Kurtz, Mary Litzsinger, and Alice Juenger; and two brothers, Bruno and Roy Shubert.

Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Alice C., nee Chesney, Shubert whom he married at St. John UCC in Plum Hill, IL on May 14, 1944; three sons, Victor H. (Amy) Shubert of Lively Grove (Coulterville), IL, Mark G. Shubert of Addieville, IL, and Lowell F. (Carol) Shubert of Lively Grove (Coulterville), IL; 12 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jackie, Joshua, Natalie, Rachel, Andy, Faith, Eric, Erin, Lindsey, John, and Tess; eight great-grandchildren, Desmond, Victoria, Addyson, Jackson, Ava, Parker, Ellora, and Fiona; many nieces and nephews.

Victor was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Funeral: A funeral service will be held 1 PM Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014 at St. Peter United Church of Christ, Stone Church, IL with Pastor Cherie Stolze officiating.  Burial will be in St. Peter UCC Cemetery, Stone Church, IL.
