Norma J. Coates

Norma J. Coates, nee Welch, 82, of Mascoutah, IL, born Nov. 13, 1931 in St. Louis, MO, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2013.

She was a longtime member at Mascoutah First Baptist Church where she served as a deacon’s wife, Sunday School teacher, WMU director, nursery and kitchen worker, VBS teacher, and secretary; and was a former member at Westview Baptist Church in Belleville. She was a housewife, worked at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for a short time, worked a few years at the Grange Nursing Home in Mascoutah in the kitchen; and babysat numerous children over the years.

Norma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J. Coates whom she married in Stonefort, IL on Mar. 5, 1950 and who died Mar. 25, 2012; her parents, John and Elsie, nee Kohring, Welch; a brother, Rev. John Welch; a sister, Wilma Youngblood, a half-sister, Alberta Kohring; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Talmage and Mae, nee Thomas, Coates.

Surviving are her four children, Betty (Paul) Terry of Belleville, IL, John (Pam) Coates of Broken Arrow, OK, Robert (Lauri) Coates of Mascoutah, IL, and Angela (Steven) Haas of Mascoutah, IL; eight grandchildren, David (Heather) Roberson, Andy King, Jonathon Coates, Joshua (Marialicia) Coates, Sarah (James) Graham, Brad (Jodie Hallbauer) Coates, Rachel Maue, and Ginni (Paul) Bernard; two great-grandchildren, Micah Roberson and Vivian Bernard; two brothers, Harold (Sharla) Welch of Rodgers, AR, and Raymond (Donna) Welch of Hermitage, MO; sister-in-law, Lois Welch of Bolivar, MO; nieces and nephews.

Thank you to the staff at Silver Creek Assisted Living in Mascoutah for their care of mom and dad.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, at Moll Funeral Home, in Mascoutah, IL, and from 9 to 10 AM Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Mascoutah, IL.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Mascoutah, IL with Norma's grandson, David Roberson, officiating. Interment will be in Valhalla Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
