Edwin "Ed" William Lange

Edwin “Ed” William Lange, 73, of Freeburg, Ill., formerly of St. Libory and Belleville, Ill., born April 21, 1941, in St. Libory, Ill., died Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at his residence.

Ed graduated from Cathedral High School in 1959.  He served in the United States Army from 1960-62.  He was a graduate of the Al Somers School for Umpires.  He was a retired lineman from Union Electric in East St. Louis and a retired member of I.B.E.W. Local 309.

Ed loved being part of family celebrations, where he enjoyed serving as the videographer.  He was a member of the Mon-Clair Baseball League Hall of Fame and a current official of the Mon-Clair Baseball League.  He was an avid collector of baseball memorabilia and enjoyed gambling and going to the horse races.  He spent many hours at his “ranch” in rural St. Libory.  Going to sporting events and debating all topics with his friends in Millstadt and Smithton were his favorite pastimes.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Clara, nee Mueller, Lange; and great-nephew Kyle Stellhorn.

Surviving are his brother Elmer (Rosalie) Lange of St. Libory; special cousin Leroy “Bucky” (Carolyn) Nordhaus of St. Libory; nieces and nephews, Terri (Marty) Stellhorn of Red Bud, Tim (Julie) Lange of St. Libory, Tricia (Jason) Schleifer of Okawville, Tyann (Tommy) Thomson of Athens, Ala., Michael (Linda) Nordhaus of Alexander, Tenn., and Michelle (Bob) Wilke of Alvin, Texas; great-nephews and nieces; special friend, Sandie Flager; and numerous friends.

Memorials may be made to the St. Liborius Cemetery Fund or in the form of masses.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Friday, Sept. 26, 2014 and from 9 to 10 AM Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 at St. Liborius Catholic Church in St. Libory, IL.
