Robert A. Armstrong

Robert “Bob” Allen Armstrong, 81, of Belleville, Ill., born December 23, 1932, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2014, joining his beloved wife of over 60 years, Dolores “Dee” Carter Armstrong.

Bob was a member of the American Federation of Television & Radio Artists, Public Relations Society of America, Press Club of Metropolitan St. Louis, Jaycees (recipient, Spoke of the Year Award) and the American Federation of Musicians, Local 29, Belleville, Illinois.

Bob attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, majoring in Radio and Speech, and became a member of TKE fraternity. He spent many years in broadcasting, working at radio stations in Illinois and Iowa, as well as several radio and TV stations in St. Louis (most recently, WIBV in Belleville as operations manager, producer and announcer, and KZJZ in St. Louis as host of the afternoon drive-time jazz show). He was an avid jazz fan and musician and played jazz drums for many years. Bob spent five years with United Fund of Greater St. Louis as Director of Public Relations and Radio/TV Specialist, and thirteen years at Maritz Motivation Co., St. Louis, as writer/producer/director/photographer and Director of the Audio/Visual Department. Bob later owned Gallery Productions, Inc., engaged in writing and producing video and slide presentations as well as brochures and advertisements for corporations, associations and travel agencies. Through all his accomplishments, Dee was by his side. They worked as travel photographers throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Mexico, the Caribbean and the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii. In more recent years, they worked together as antique dealers.

Bob is survived by daughters, Christie (Tim) Armstrong-Kwock, Jana (Jim) Armstrong Moll and Jennifer Armstrong; a son, Jon “Monty” Armstrong; six grandchildren, Jacki Moll, Katie (Matthew) Kwock McArthur, Julie Armstrong, Jacob Moll, Jonathan Kwock, Jaden Armstrong, and sisters, Jean Armstrong Balsley, and Betty Armstrong (John) Graig.

Visitation: Friends may call from 6 to 9 PM Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.

Funeral: Graveside services will be held 3:30 PM Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro, IL.
