Harvey J. "Jim" Klingelhoefer, Jr.

February 15, 1929 — April 22, 2014

Harvey J. “Jim” Klingelhoefer, Jr., 85, of Mascoutah, IL, born Feb. 15, 1929 in Mascoutah Township, IL, died Tuesday, Apr. 22, 2014 at the MarKa Nursing Home in Mascoutah.

Jim was retired from farming and a retired Mascoutah School Dist. 19 school bus driver after 40 years of service.  He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah; past member and president of St. John UCC church council; former member of the Mascoutah School Board; past president and 26 year member of the Clinton County Rural Electric Assn.; past president and member of the Mascoutah Evening Lions Club and 1969/1970 “Lion of the Year” award recipient; lifetime member of the Mascoutah American Legion Post 292; board member of the Mascoutah Fire Protection District; member of Mascoutah Chamber of Commerce; and he served as an MP in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.  He was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing cards, and he loved following his children and grandchildren to all of their sporting events.  He was especially fond of throwing out the first pitch during the 1978 Mascoutah Night at Busch Stadium with his fellow Lion Club members as his accomplices.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey J. and Helen, nee Glenn, Klingelhoefer, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Delores “Dee”, nee Ahring, Klingelhoefer who he married in O’Fallon, IL on June 7, 1953; three children, Thomas (Catherine) Klingelhoefer of Mascoutah, IL, Richard (Patricia) Klingelhoefer of O’Fallon, IL, and Connie (Mark) Schanuel of Smithton, IL; seven grandchildren, Tara (Dustin) Graul, Melanie (Bryan) Bernat, Haley Klingelhoefer, Tyler and Taylor Klingelhoefer, Madison and Chloe Schanuel; three great grandsons, Remington and Case Graul, and Mason Bernat; two sisters, Betty Krupp of Belleville, IL, and Bonnie (Vernon) Eidman of St. Paul, MN; many nieces and nephews.

The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the staff at MarKa Nursing Home and the staff at Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc. for their loving, passionate, care and support during Jim’s stay at MarKa.

Visitation: visitation is from 2 to 6 PM Sunday, Apr. 27, 2014 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, and 9 to 10 AM Monday, Apr. 28, 2014 at St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah.

Funeral: funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday, Apr. 28, 2014 at St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah with the Rev. Hugh Fitz officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
