Thomas H. Norrenberns, 82, of Mascoutah, IL, born Nov. 29, 1931 in Albers, IL went home to the Lord Feb. 15, 2014 at his residence.
Tom was a retired meat cutter and business owner of Tom’s Supermarkets, director and chairman of First Federal Savings Bank in Mascoutah, and retired bus driver for Mascoutah Community School District 19. A member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah; K of C Council 4380 where he held the 4th degree; Holy Childhood Men’s Ministry; sang for over 50 years in the church choir; Serra Club; Mascoutah American Legion Post 292; Mascoutah VFW Post 7682; Mascoutah Evening Lions Club; Mascoutah Chamber of Commerce; Mascoutah City Council; Mascoutah Park Board; Mascoutah Moose Lodge 815; Mascoutah Christian Men’s Ministry, and Mascoutah Sportsman’s Club.
He loved and was so proud of his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Tom was a man of deep faith and shared and practiced his faith throughout his life, including a mission trip to Africa and helping make thousands of prayer crosses. He loved serving others, his customers, and his community – volunteering and serving on numerous civic clubs and boards. He had a great sense of humor, loved sports, music, woodworking, dancing, gardening, making sausage, and playing cards. He leaves his family with great memories and his legacy of faith and community service lives on through them.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Duane Thomas Norrenberns, his parents, Bernard J. and Pauline M., nee Baahlman, a sister, Lorraine Schniers, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Cy Schniers, Terry Templin, Harry and Alberta, Al, Joseph, Jerome and Norbert Wienstroer, Elvira and Andy Behrmann, Peter Jennetten, Henry Kramper, Irma and Raphael Lintker.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Ann, nee Wienstroer, Norrenberns whom he married in Lively Grove, IL on June 4, 1957; his children, Don (JoDee) Norrenberns of Mascoutah, IL, Thomas Joseph (Nanette) Norrenberns of Collinsville, IL, Bonnie Ann (Dennis) Hightower, John ( Angie) Norrenberns, Ronda Ann (Danny) Beck, Lisa Ann (Brandon) Woodrome, all of Mascoutah, IL; 25 grandchildren, Carolyn (Erik) Taube, Ben, Jamie and Henry Thomas Norrenberns, Jessica (David) Meurer, Craig and Ava Marie Norrenberns, Rachel, John, Jeff and Reagan Hightower, Andy, Clare, Jack and Sam Norrenberns, Bridget, Isaac, Thomas, Annelise, Jordan, Luke and MaryGrace Beck, Abraham, Elijah, Noah and baby Woodrome; three great-grandchildren, Nolan and Morgan Meurer and Landon Taube; five brothers and sisters, Jim (Mary Ann) Norrenberns of Albers, IL, Pat (Esther) Norrenberns of Carlyle, IL, Monica (Les) Barkis of League City, TX, Madonna (Tim) Koch of O’Fallon, IL, Paulette Templin of Albers, IL; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marie Jennetten, Herbert (Lorraine) Wienstroer, Henrietta Kramper, Gloria, Annette and Edna Wienstroer; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In lieu of all other gifts memorials may be made to Holy Childhood School or Holy Childhood Youth Ministry Program.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 9 PM Wednesday Feb.19, 2014 and from 9 to 10:30 AM Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah, IL. A Prayer Service will be held at 3:30 PM Wednesday at the church.
Funeral: A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church, Mascoutah, IL. Burial will follow in Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery in Mascoutah.
