Patricia Jean Benton Williams, nee Haas, 71, of Mascoutah, IL, born Oct 19, 1942 in Belleville, IL, died peacefully, with her family by her side at 5:55 PM Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014 at St Elizabeth’s Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Patty was a bookkeeper for Moore, Renner & Simonin in Belleville, IL until her retirement in 2000. She also devoted much of her time to the American Legion Post 292 in Mascoutah. She attended Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah. Patty never met a stranger and was always willing to strike up a conversation with anyone. She enjoyed traveling, reading and following NASCAR racing, but her biggest love were her family and friends. Patty’s love was unconditional.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Urban M. “Blondie” and Ruth E., nee Koch, Haas; her previous husband, David E. Benton, Sr.; a sister, Bonnie L. Kohrmann; and a niece, Caylynn Johnston.
Surviving is her husband, Winfred “Buster” Williams, Sr. whom she married in Mascoutah, IL on Dec. 27, 1986; three children, William P. Benton of Murphysboro, IL, Angela M. (Terry Pollmann) Johnson of New Memphis, IL, David E. (Anne Fritz) Benton, Jr. of Edwardsville, IL; three step-sons, Winfred E. (Mary) Williams, Jr. of Hershey, NE, Thomas A. Williams and Bobby D. Williams, both of Winston-Salem, NC; two grandsons, Jason Johnson of Trenton, IL, Anthony Bechtoldt of New Baden, IL; three sisters, Barbara (Valroy) Binsbacher of Addieville, IL, Mary Beth Rudy of New Hope, PA, Peggy Johnston of Clemson, SC; a brother, Marty (Dawn) Haas of Belleville, IL; brother-in-law, Eric Kohrmann of Mascoutah, IL; aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
In lieu of all other gifts, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 292, 1414 W. Main, Mascoutah, IL 62258.
Visitation: visitation is from 4 to 8 PM Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 and from 7:30 to 10:30 AM Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.
Funeral: a funeral Mass will be held 11 AM Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at the Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah with Father Brian Barker officiating. Burial will be in Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery, Mascoutah, IL.
