David R. Mcdonough

March 13, 1952 — October 9, 2013

David R. McDonough, 61, of Mascoutah, IL was born in Buffalo, New York on March 13, 1952. He died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer. David passed away at peace and in the home he lovingly built with his family.

He lived in Mascoutah, IL from 1982 until 2013, aside from four memorable years in Miesenbach, Germany, where he lived with his family while working at the United States Air Force Europe headquarters (1986 – 1990).

David grew up in Tonawanda, NY, and attended Kenmore East High School. He graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo with both a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s in statistics. He worked for the U.S. Department of Defense as a systems analyst at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, IL from 1982 until his death.

David married his high school sweetie. Together they worked their way through college, and then graduate school, building a foundation of laughter and love that would last 42 precious years. David loved carpentry, books, his pecan trees and strawberry patches, his bicycle and the Cardinals, and, of course, his family. Even on his hardest days, he took his beloved daily walk through town. We will miss all that was him -- so uniquely brilliant, generous and joyful -- forever.

He is preceded in death by his father, Richard C. McDonough.

He is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn (White) McDonough, who he married Jan. 16, 1972; his mother, Beverly (Carrier) McDonough; son, Jarrod (Nickey) McDonough; daughter, Maggie; grandchildren, Sidney and Ryan; brothers, Timothy (Janine), Richard (Theresa), Daniel, and James McDonough; sister, Susan (Mo) Saito; and many much-loved nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society; or BJC Hospice,
1 Professional Dr., Suite 180, Alton, IL 62002. Condolences may be expressed online at mollfuneralhome.com.

There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held in Buffalo NY.
