Benny Ray Saunders

Benny Ray Saunders, 58, of Mascoutah, IL, born Sept. 9, 1954, in Mullens, WV, died suddenly Monday July 1, 2013, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, IL.


Benny was Manager and Director of Fueling at Dynegy Midwest Generations LLC at the Baldwin Energy Complex. He attended Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah with his wife and children. He enjoyed hunting, camping, watching Cardinal baseball, and spending time with his family.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis D. and Lillie Mae, nee Rethford, Saunders; a brother, Curtis Saunders; and a sister, Ava Saunders.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Therese, nee Newsome, Saunders whom he married in Mullens, WV on July 2, 1975; two children, Kimberly (Nathan) Caserotti of Mascoutah, IL, and Brian Saunders of Mascoutah, IL; two grandchildren, Lilliana and Bennett Caserotti; four brothers, Terry (Tammy) Saunders of Beckley, WV, David (Lisa) Saunders of Beckley, WV, Delbert (Dinah) Saunders of Roanoke, VA, and Ralph (Melissa) Saunders of Pineville, WV; two sisters, Darlene (Larry) Kerr of Charleston, WV, and Della (Gary) Hauck of Mullens, WV; a mother-in-law, Naza Lee Newsome of Mascoutah, IL; numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 9 PM Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL; and from 9 to 10 AM Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church, Mascoutah, IL.


Funeral: A funeral service will be held 10 AM Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church with Msgr. Jerome Hartlein officiating. Burial will be in Holy Childhood Cemetery in Mascoutah, IL.
