Dorothy B. Miller

Dorothy B. Miller, nee Roehrig, 85, of Mascoutah, IL born March 22, 1927 in Mascoutah, IL, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.


She was a retired registered nurse and nursing instructor, a graduate of Lebanon High School and received her Associate of Science degree in nursing from Belleville Area College. Dorothy enjoyed cruising, travelling throughout the United States and Europe, quilting and genealogy. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah, she was the former Director of Nursing at Notre Dame and assistant Director of Nursing at Castlehaven extended care facilities, past president of American Legion Auxiliary, past member and officer of Turkey Hill Grange for 50 years having attained the 7th degree, she was named in the World Who’s Who of Women 5th Edition and Who’s Who of American Women 1978 – 1984 and past member of the Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary (Pink Ladies).


She was preceded in death by her husband, Rowland Miller whom she married at St. John U.C.C. in Mascoutah, IL Nov. 23, 1947 and who died in 1978; her parents, Earl A. and Mabel, nee Gustman, Roehrig, her stepmother, Virginia, nee Van Winkle, Roehrig and a brother, Herbert Roehrig.


Surviving are two daughters, Barbara (James) Stewart and Mary (Charles) Carnahan; grandchildren, Jon-Michel (Selene) Fitzsimmons, Catherine (David) Stewart Irwin; great grandson, Cillian Fitzsimmons, a brother, Roger Roehrig; dear companion of 34 years, Harold Hirstein and his family; and nieces and nephews.


Memorials may be made to the Mascoutah Public Library or Mascoutah Animal Hospital Stray Dog and Cat Fund. .


Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 at the Moll Funeral Home, Mascoutah, IL; and from 10 to 11:00 AM Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 at St. John United Church of Christ, Mascoutah, IL.


Funeral: Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 at St. John United Church of Christ with the Rev. Hugh Fitz officiating. Burial will be in Green Mount Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
