Sophia L. Falkner, nee Hanks, 87, of Mascoutah, IL born Jan. 7, 1925 in Marion, IL died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 at MarKa Nursing Home, Mascoutah, IL.
She was a retired employee of Martha Manning Dress Factory; a member of St. John U.C.C., Mascoutah, IL; member of Mascoutah Moose Chapter 392 for 40 years where she helped in many areas but mainly being the dining room chairman; she held the Academy of Friendship and College of Regents degrees; she especially enjoyed attending the Moose district meetings and state conventions.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Falkner whom she married in Granite City, IL on July 22, 1945, her parents, Oscar and Emma, nee Reese, Hanks, two sisters, Mae Edwards and Alberta Hill, three brothers, William, Louie, and Ernest Hanks, and dearest friend, Roma Walker.
Surviving are her sister, Loudean Kelton of Benton, IL; nieces and nephews, Jim (Joyce) Hanks, William (Mary) Hanks and Melvin (Debbie) Hanks, all of Edwardsville, IL; special friends, Curtis (Bonnie) Condon of Mascoutah, IL; and many of her “Moose Friends” throughout the state.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc. or Mascoutah Moose Lodge 815.
Visitation: friends may call from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday, Nov. 13 2012 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL. There will be a Women of The Moose Ritual at 6:30 PM Tuesday evening.
Funeral: funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 at Moll Funeral Home, Mascoutah, IL with the Rev. Hugh Fitz officiating. Burial will follow in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
