Clyde L. Burgard, 87, of Mascoutah, IL, born Jan. 13, 1920, in Fayetteville Twp., IL, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007 at the MarKa Nursing Home in Mascoutah, IL.
Clyde was a land agent for Peabody Coal Co. for 30 years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah where he was a past church council member and served on various committees, a member of the American Legion and a 65-year member of the Masonic Lodge #418 of Freeburg, IL. He was a past Mascoutah High School Board member for 12 years and served as their president for 8 years, past member of KIDC Association and previously served on the City of Mascoutah Board of Appeals. He was an Army veteran of WW II serving in the European Theatre during D-day and the Battle of the Bulge in the 136th Ord. Maint. Bat. 11th Armored Division.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Ann, nee Westermeier, Burgard on Aug. 1, 1952, his parents, Emil E. and Rose M., nee Frantz, Burgard, a daughter, Deborah, nee Burgard, Dingledine, a sister, Ethel E. Burgard, father-in-law and mother-in-law, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He is survived by his wife, Julia, nee Littrell, Burgard whom he married in Mascoutah, IL on June 22, 1957; his children, Sandra Mancuso of Fairview Heights, IL, Karen (Ellsworth) Evenson of Geneva, IL, Kenneth (Donna) Burgard of Pasco, WA, Dale (Donna) Burgard of Zionsville, IN, and David (Yvonne) Burgard of Oxford, OH; 10 grandchildren, Anthony (Dana) Mancuso, Cara Mancuso, Christopher (Robyn) Dingledine, Joseph Dingledine, Michael Odle, Katherine Odle (friend Liam Marsden), Elizabeth Burgard, Conley Burgard, Jessica (Michael) Bryant, and Rachel Burgard (fiancé Brian Chandley), 2 great-grandchildren, Gabriela and Andrew Mancuso; 2 brothers, Leslie (Doris) Burgard of Mascoutah, IL, and Warren (Joann) Burgard of Urbana, IL; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ or MarKa Nursing Home Activity Fund.
Visitation: Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007 at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL, and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007 at the church.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007 at St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah with the Rev. Hugh Fitz officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
