Walter W. Butler, 88, of Mascoutah, IL, born March 5, 1919 in Jackson County, IL, died Saturday, Dec.22, 2007 at the Assisted Living Facility at Silver Creek in Mascoutah, IL.


Walter was a retired president and chairman of the board of the former First National Bank of Mascoutah. He was a WWII Army veteran, a member of St. John U.C.C., Mascoutah, member of V.F.W. Post 7682, Mascoutah, and a past 40 year member of the Mascoutah Lions Club.


He is preceded in death by his wife, Ina E., nee Ditterline, Butler whom he married Dec. 24, 1941 in Equality, IL and who died August 19, 1997, his parents, Frank H. and Julia R., nee Boucher, Butler and 4 brothers, Daniel, David, William and Boyd Butler.


He is survived by 2 daughters, Sherrelyn J. (Jack E.) Wachtel of Elgin, IL and Treva K. (Gary L.) Carr of Mascoutah, IL, 4 grandsons, Greg (Julie) Wachtel of Murphysboro, IL, Mark Wachtel of Carpentersville, IL, Doug (Tascia) Carr of Trumbull, CT, Nick (Lindsay) Carr of Ava, IL, 4 great-grandchildren, Leah and Johnny Wachtel and James Walter and Reagan Carr, a brother, Urban (Margaret) Butler of Gorham, IL a sister, Francis Hubbard of Niles, MI and dear friend, Bobbye Patterson of Mascoutah, IL.


Memorials may be made to St. John U.C.C., 55 West Church St., Mascoutah, IL 62258.


Visitation: From 4 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007 at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah and Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 from 8:30 until 10:00 a.m. at St. John U.C.C. in Mascoutah, IL.


Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 at St. John U.C.C., Mascoutah, IL with the Rev. Hugh Fitz and Rev. Robert Edwards officiating. Burial will be in the Mascoutah City Cemetery.
