Edgar W. "Eck" Bagby

Edgar W. “Eck” Bagby, 81, of Mascoutah, IL, born Sept. 6, 1926 in Mascoutah, IL, died Saturday, Mar. 1, 2008 at the Willow Creek Rehab and Nursing Center, Belleville, IL.


Edgar was a retired gas fitter from Illinois Power Company; a member of Holy Childhood Parish in Mascoutah; Plumbers and Fitters Union Local 101, Belleville; Mascoutah VFW Post 7682; a past member of the Mascoutah American Legion Post 292; a past member of the Mascoutah Volunteer Fire Department; and he was a WW II Army veteran serving in the South Pacific.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Sophie, nee Ott, Bagby, his wife, Marian D., nee Harper, Bagby, whom he married in Mascoutah, IL on Feb. 26, 1949 and who died March 30, 2001, a granddaughter, Mary Katheryne Ritter, a brother, Alvin Bagby, and a sister, Mary Bagby.


He is survived by three children, Richard (Patricia) Bagby of Germantown, IL, Jane (Dan) Green of Lewisburg, TN, and Donald Bagby and friend Patty McFadden of Mascoutah, IL; eight grandchildren, Brian (Melissa) Bagby, Mark (Danyel) Bagby, Nicholas (Kim) Bagby, Christopher Atnip, Matthew (Leslie) Atnip, Michael Atnip, Jennifer (Jared) Weber, and Elisha Bagby; 12 great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Dorothy (J. L.) Jones of Soddy Daisy, TN, and JoAnn Harper of Carlyle, IL; nieces and nephews.


Memorials may be made to Holy Childhood School Endowment Fund; Mascoutah VFW Post 7682; or to any charity of the donor’s choice.


Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2008 and from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL. There will be a prayer service at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.


Funeral: A funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Holy Childhood Church, Mascoutah, IL., with Monsignor Jerome Hartlein and Deacon Robert Lanter officiating. Burial will be in Holy Childhood Cemetery in Mascoutah, IL.
