Herbert C. Herges

Herbert C. Herges, 86, of Mascoutah, IL, born July 31, 1925 in St. Joseph, MN died Saturday, July 14, 2012 at his residence.

Herb served in the US Air Force from 1945 to 1971 retiring as a MSgt, and also retired from Peabody Coal Co. after 12 years of service.  He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Mascoutah, IL; Mascoutah Douglas Lodge #361 AF & AM; Shriners Ainad Temple; Scottish Rites; American Legion Post 292, Mascoutah; and a WW II, Korean War, and Vietnam War veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mathilda, nee Maleska, Herges; his first wife, Louise S., nee Littrell, Herges who he married in Belleville, IL on Sept. 1, 1947 and who died July 11, 1996; his second wife, Doris J., nee Dayton, Doering Frederick Herges who he married in Mascoutah, IL on Aug. 7, 1999 and who died Dec. 5, 2011; eight brothers and a sister.

He is survived by two children, Michael C. (Barbara) Herges of Salinas, CA, and Patricia L. (Mark) Schanz of Mascoutah, IL; three grandchildren, Danielle, Brandon, and Jennifer Herges; a great grandchild, Reese Nordin; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Herges of Minnesota, and Julie Burgard of Mascoutah, IL; a half brother, George (Margie) Toenjes of Clear lake, MN; stepchildren; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In lieu of all other gifts, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital; St. John United Church of Christ; or Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc.  Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting mollfuneralhome.com.

Visitation:  friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.  A Masonic service will be held at 7 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Funeral:  funeral services will be held 10 AM Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the funeral home with the Rev. Hugh Fitz officiating.  Military graveside services will follow in Lake View Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fairview Heights, IL.
