E. R. “Dick” Hagist, 92 of Mascoutah, IL, born May 16, 1916 in Mascoutah, IL, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.
Dick owned and operated Hagist Department Store in Mascoutah until the early 1970’s, and he was very fond of overseeing the family farm on the outskirts of Mascoutah. He was a member of the Mascoutah Masonic Lodge for 61 years, the Mascoutah Senior Citizens, and a life member of the Elks Lodge #481 of Belleville where he was a member since 1955.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Edna, nee Rayhill, Hagist; his wife Edna G., nee Leibrock, Hagist whom he married in Mascoutah, IL on Aug. 8, 1940 and who died Oct. 6, 2003; and a brother, Rayhill (Kathryn) Hagist.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan (Stephen) Kobayashi of Bishop, CA, and Mary Dunkel of Lancaster, CA; five grandchildren, Charles (April) Kobayashi, Anna (Scott) Lomes, Karyn Kobayashi, Stacy Dunkel, and Sara (Chris) Chandler; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Lomes, Hannah Kobayashi, and Zachary Chandler; a nephew, R. J. Hagist; a great nephew, John (Cecilia) Hagist; a great niece, Kathryn (Daniel) Yunk; and four great-great nieces and nephews, Jacob, Marc, Ana Hagist, and Emily Yunk.
Memorials may be made to the Mascoutah Masonic Lodge, or Mascoutah Senior Service Program.
Visitation: friends may call from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.
Funeral: a Masonic Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Moll Funeral Home followed by a service of remembrance with Josh Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Mascoutah City Cemetery.
