Joan L. Powers

Joan L. Powers, nee Miller, 63, of Mascoutah, IL, born Oct. 4, 1945 in Belleville, IL, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008 at her residence.


Before her illness, Joan was a youth care worker at the Hoyleton Youth and Family Services for the past 15 years and a member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah, IL.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Weiland “Bud” and Antoinette, nee Haas, Miller; and a brother Wayne Miller.


She is survived by two sons, Steven (Kim) Powers, and Dean Powers all of Mascoutah, IL; two grandchildren, Coleton and Jaden Powers; mother, Cleo Miller of Mascoutah, IL; two brothers, Jim (Kate) Miller of Meredith, NH, and Tom (Michele) Schaefer of Mascoutah, IL; sister-in-law, Michelle Miller of Mascoutah, IL; her children’s father, Al Powers of New Baden, IL; nieces and nephews, Kevin Miller, Kelsie and Alaina Schaefer, Jonah and Lucas Hanowitz, Hien, Chien, Effie, Kanika and Jesse Miller; aunts, cousins, many friends; and her dear dogs and cat, Prairie, Max and Simba who were always at her side. Joan was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt.


Memorials may be made to Hoyleton Youth and Family Services or Holy Childhood School.


Visitation: friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL. A prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.


Funeral: a funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church, Mascoutah, IL with Msgr. Jerome Hartlein officiating. Burial will be in Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
