Walter C. Kuehn, 78, of Mascoutah, IL, formerly of Fairview Heights, IL, born April 13, 1930, in East St. Louis, IL, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.
Walter grew up in East St. Louis, IL. He served in the U. S. Army as a construction engineer in the Korean War from 1951-1953, followed by eight years in the Army Reserves. Walter retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad as a clerk and district representative after 38 years of service. He was a member of VFW Post 8677, Fairview Heights, IL where he held several positions including Junior Vice-Commander.
Over the years, Walter enjoyed several activities. After his military honorable discharge, Walter built a house in Fairview Heights to raise his family. He coached youth baseball with the Fairview Heights Khoury League. He was an avid gardener, proudly sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He loved dogs, seldom without one by his side. He also enjoyed boating, fishing and traveling to Colorado and the Smokey Mountains. Walter is dearly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Marcella L., nee Fricke, Kuehn; brothers, Robert “Bob” Kuehn and Bernard “Bernie” Kuehn.
He is survived by his four children, Donald (Judy) Kuehn of Bethalto, IL, Jim (Eileen) Kuehn of Mascoutah, IL, Mike (Cheryl) Kuehn of O’Fallon, IL, and Cindy Stanley of Eatonton, GA; sixteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Bill (Sandy) Kuehn of Swansea, IL; a sister-in-law, Lettie Kuehn of Caseyville, IL; nieces, nephews, and dear friend Myrna Michels.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Ringhofer, Silver Creek Assisted Living Center, Memorial Hospital, Hospice of Southern Illinois, and Pastor Hugh Fitz and their staffs for their loving care during Walter’s final years.

Visitation: friends may call from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.
Funeral: funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL with the Rev. Hugh Fitz officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
