Joseph H. Greten

Joseph H. Greten, 84, of Lively Grove, IL, born June 16, 1924 in Lively Grove Township, IL, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.


Joseph was a retired grain and livestock farmer, a lifetime member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Lively Grove, IL, St. Anthony’s Men’s Club and a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Theresa, nee Buss, Greten, two sisters, Josephine Schmersahl and Marie Behrman and a brother Leo Greten.


He is survived by five brothers, Anthony Greten of Lively Grove, IL, Gilbert Greten of New Athens, IL, Lambert (Carolyn) Greten of Fairview Heights, IL, Urban (Mary Ann) Greten of St. Libory, IL, and Jerome (Pat) Greten of Marissa, IL; a sister, Rita Pour of New Athens, IL; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.


Memorials may be made in the form of masses or St. Anthony’s Church Building Fund or St. Anthony’s Church Cemetery Fund.


Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2009 at the Moll Funeral Home in St. Libory, IL. A prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.


Funeral: A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Lively Grove, IL with Rev. Dennis Voss officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery.
