Mabel D. Lands

Mabel D. Lands, nee, Kaufman, 62, of Mascoutah, IL, born Sept. 8, 1946 in Alhambra, IL, died Friday, Mar. 6, 2009 at the MarKa Nursing Home in Mascoutah, IL surrounded by her family.


Mabel was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a teacher at the Sixth Street Elementary School in Mascoutah for 34 years; a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah where she taught and directed Vacation Bible School, taught Sunday School, member of the Saturday Nighters, Board of Christian Ed., Christian Ministries, Christian Home Care, Meals on Wheels, and went on a mission trip to the Honduras. She was a Boy Scout and Girl Scout Leader; member of the Mascoutah Tuesday Woman’s Club; Red Hat Ladies; involved with Mascoutah Summer Library Reading Program; judged books for Young Authors; member of MEA; IEA; NEA; and IRTA.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Lamoine and Elizabeth, nee McIntyre, Kaufman; and her father-in-law, Albert R. Lands.


She is survived by her husband, Larry R. Lands, whom she married in Alhambra, IL on June 6, 1970; a son, Aaron (Kristen) Lands of Lebanon, IL; a daughter, Rebecca (Terry) Amburgey of Mascoutah, IL; two grandchildren, Abigail Lands and Alex Amburgey; a sister, Ruth (Robert) Koller of Mascoutah, IL; a brother, Gene (Melinda) Kaufman of Bloomington, IL; mother-in-law, Dolly Lands of Delta, MO; brother-in-law, Donald Lands of Benton, MO; sister-in-law, Emma Lands of Delta, MO; a nephew, Noel Koller of Mascoutah, IL; three nieces, Janis Garland of Mascoutah, IL, Amberly Stallard of Chicago, IL, and Michelle Lands of Scott City, MO.

Visitation: friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL, and from 10:00 to11:00 AM Monday, March 9, 2009 at the church.


Funeral: funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday, March 9, 2009 at St. John UCC in Mascoutah with Pastor Hugh Fitz officiating. Burial will be in the Mascoutah City Cemetery.
