Jeanette Benz Garvin passed to Eternal Life on March 29, 2009 at the age of 89.
She was born May 16, 1919 to Arthur and Adelia Justus Benz in Mascoutah, IL. In September, 1942, she married Boyce Wiley Garvin. They were the parents of two sons, Boyce Weston Garvin and Gregory Arthur Garvin.
Jeanette was a graduate of Mascoutah High School and Mac Murray College in Jacksonville, Illinois. After her college graduation, she was employed as a teacher in the Mascoutah Elementary School.
In 1954 Jeanette and Boyce and their sons moved to California and established the Garvin Accounting Agency in Santa Ana.
During her years in California, Jeanette spent many joyous years as a Docent at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana. She especially enjoyed taking art to the classrooms of children. She was an avid collector of Indian artifacts, rugs, and jewelry. Jeanette was a kind-hearted lover of abandoned cats, and had a generous spirit to all things great and small.
Following the death of her husband and younger son Greg, she moved to Roosevelt, Utah to live with her elder son Boyce and daughter-in-law, Kathi. Boyce passed away in 2007 and Jeanette came home to Mascoutah where she resided at the Grange Nursing Home until the time of her death.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Benz Marietta of Mascoutah, and by her nieces Andree B. Ireland Lucas of Lynnville, Indiana, and Tina A. M. Setterlund of Mascoutah.
According to Jeanette’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be conducted by Bishop Dwight Wiest of the Church of the Latter Day Saints. Burial will be in the Mascoutah City Cemetery.
