Eugene P. Reuss

Eugene P. Reuss, 86, of St. Libory, IL, born Sept. 29, 1922 in New Athens, IL. died Saturday, Apr. 4, 2009 at the Freeburg Care Center surrounded by his family.


Eugene retired in May 1985 as custodian at St. Liborius Grade School and Church where he worked for 23 years. He also painted houses and restored furniture. He was a member of St. Liborius Catholic Church, Son’s of the American Legion Post 683, St. Libory, past trustee for the Village of St. Libory, and former member of the St. Libory Moose.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Germaine, nee Middendorf, Reuss, whom he married Oct. 3, 1946 and who died Nov. 29, 1989; his parents, Philip and Emma, nee Glaus, Reuss; two grandsons, Bryan and Ryan Reuss; a brother, Floyd Reuss; two sisters, Marcella Pusteri and Mary Woolford; a sister-in-law, Elsie Reuss; and a brother-in-law, Jack Grant.


He is survived by his children, Wayne (Christine) Reuss of Millstadt, IL, Kathleen (Dennis) Stehl of St. Libory, IL, Richard (Donna) Reuss of New Athens, IL; Ron (Ann) Reuss of Belleville, IL, Ken (Donna) Reuss of New Baden, IL; grandchildren, Lisa (Scott) Ludwig, Stacy Burke, Brett (fiancé Amanda Brooks) Stehl, Chad (special friend Lindsey Wolf) Stehl, Jennifer (Kevin) McDonald, Jeff (Stephanie) Reuss, Mike (Lindsey) Reuss, Joshua Reuss, and Jessica Reuss; great-grandchildren, Eric and Abby Burke, Elizabeth Ludwig, Kaitlyn Reuss, Olivia, Grant, Jack and Cooper Reuss, and Aidan McDonald; step-grandchild, Craig (Dawn) Heimburger; step-great grandchildren, Mallory and Molly Ludwig and Brooke Heimburger; two sisters, Helen Grant of New Athens, IL, and Delia (Dale) Sinn of Marissa, IL; a brother, Ray Reuss of New Athens, IL; two brothers-in-law, Tony Pusteri of Hillsboro, MO, and Joe Woolford of New Athens, IL; a sister-in-law, Mildred Reuss of New Athens, IL; a brother-in-law, sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.


A special thanks to the staff at Freeburg Care Center, especially the C-Hall, for their special care that they gave to Dad the last two and a half years.


Memorials may be made to St. Liborius Building Fund, Freeburg Care Center, or Family Hospice.


Visitation: friends may call from 4:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday, Apr. 7, 2009 at the Moll Funeral Home in St. Libory, IL. A prayer service will be held 5:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.


Funeral: a funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, Apr. 8, 2009 at St. Liborius Catholic Church in St. Libory, IL with Rev. Dennis Voss officiating. Burial will be in St. Liborius Catholic Cemetery, St. Libory, IL.
