Pearl I. Hoerdt, 96, passed away on May 12, 2009 at the MarKa Nursing Home, Mascoutah, IL.
Pearl was born Aug. 20, 1912, the eldest child of Hugo and Alma (Kruse) Boller. She was predeceased by her parents, a brother Roy, a sister Mertie Liebig, her husband Frederic O. Hoerdt, a son-in-law David K. Palit, and a great-granddaughter Holly Anne Palit. Survivors include a daughter Martha Palit of Champaign, IL, a grandson Mark Palit and Jolene Culver of Kennewick, WA, a granddaughter Rohini Palit and her husband Corey O’Dell of Chicago, IL, a great-grandson Aidan O’Dell, a great-granddaughter Indira O’Dell, two step great-granddaughters Shannon Wenzel and Kiernan O’Dell, and a niece, Barbara Liebig Roper.
She grew up on a farm near Mascoutah and was a 50 year member of Turkey Hill Grange. Raised a Methodist, she joined St. John United Church of Christ after her marriage in 1935, attended the Brotherhood Wives Club, amongst other church events, and remained an active member until going into MarKa in Sept. 2002. With her husband she was co-owner and operator of the second-generation family business Otto Hoerdt Wallpaper and Paint Store of Mascoutah until their retirement in 1978. While health permitted, the couple delivered Meals-on-Wheels. She liked to play the piano, was an excellent cook, a meticulous housekeeper, and a conscientious business woman and, especially, a dedicated and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Donation of body was to St. Louis University School of Medicine.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John United Church of Christ.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009 at St. John United Church of Christ, Mascoutah, IL with the Rev. Hugh Fitz officiating. Lunch will follow in the church fellowship hall.
