Evangeline A. “Vangie” Zimmerman, nee Sommers, 92, of Mascoutah, IL, born March 10, 1917 in Washington County, IL, died Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the Grange Nursing Home, Mascoutah, IL.
Vangie was a homemaker and former secretary at the Mascoutah Senior Center for 15 years. She was a member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah, IL, HCCCW, Mascoutah Senior Citizens and V.F.W Auxiliary Post 7682.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence J. Zimmerman, whom she married in Mascoutah, IL, Sept. 12, 1939 and who died Jan. 14, 1995, a granddaughter, Crystal Becker, a great-grandson, Alex Zimmerman, her parents, Anton F. and Catherine, nee Mattern, Sommers and two brothers, Joseph and Robert Sommers.
She is survived by four sons, James Zimmerman of Mascoutah, IL, Paul and Donna Zimmerman of Mascoutah, IL, Daniel and Pat Zimmerman of Belleville, IL, Joseph and Sylvia Zimmerman of St. Peters, MO; two daughters, Kathleen Schuetz of Mascoutah, IL and Marian (David) Becker of Franklin, KY; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Childhood Memorial Improvement Fund or Family Hospice of Belleville Area.
Visitation: friends may call from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL. A prayer service will be held 5 PM Tuesday evening.
Funeral: a funeral mass will be held 10 AM Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church with Msgr. Jerome Hartlein officiating. Burial will be in Holy Childhood Cemetery, Mascoutah, IL.
