Leroy W. "Shorty" Haas

Leroy W. “Shorty” Haas, 86, of Mascoutah, IL, born June 19, 1923 in Lebanon, IL, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Cedar Ridge Health Care Center, Lebanon, IL.


Shorty was a retired custodian after 24 years at Mascoutah School District #19. He was a member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah, K of C Council #4380 in Mascoutah, Life member of the Mascoutah Moose Lodge #815, 700 Club, the Mascoutah VFW Post 7682, and a US Army WW II veteran.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Xavier and Catherine, nee Laquet, Haas; his first wife, Katherine, nee Polich, Haas who died on Feb. 23, 1969; his second wife, Rita M., nee Quitmeyer, Welker Haas whom he married on Dec. 15, 1973 in Mascoutah, IL and who died Sept. 22, 2002; and a brother, Norbert Haas.


He is survived by three stepchildren, Janice (Donald) Wombacher of Mascoutah, IL, Robert (Kathy) Welker of Mascoutah, IL, and William (Nancy) Welker of Belleville, IL; six step grandchildren, Donald (Linda) Wombacher, Dean (Valerie) Wombacher, Carl (Leslie) Welker, Nicole (Morgan) Christ, Kari Welker, and Kelly Welker; nine step great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille (William) Stratz of Red Bank, NJ; numerous nieces and nephews.


Memorials may be made to Holy Childhood School Endowment Fund.


Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Friday, July 24, 2009 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.


Funeral: A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church with Msgr. James Blazine officiating. Burial will be in Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery, Mascoutah, IL.
